Are you an e-book reader?

I read about a book a month, but I kinda cheat. I listen to my books via www.Audible.com. Total listening time for you average business book is anywhere between 7-15 hours. (Note: I CANNOT handle reading story-line books, mysteries, dramas, or any other ficticious book… no matter how many dragon tattoos the girl may have. I just can’t get into it, as I need content and actionable items to implement.) Business books, techie books, and auto-biographies are my go-to.

Today, Barnes and Noble announced the release of their e-reader… a couple hours after they announced they have captured 25% of the e-reader market. Couple points of interest on this new gadget: $139 bucks, 6 inch screen, Wi-Fi Only meaning no 3G, and a battery life of 2 months. Again, with the super-long battery (see yesterday’s post). If I were a betting man, this is a clear sign that the nerds in Silicon Valley have finally figured out a way to build a battery that will power a device for more than a couple days. Personally, I’m surprised it took so long, but 2 similar announcements in 2 days with 2 different companies means things are changing.

So, something like this is not for me, as I’m hooked (and a monthly subscriber) on www.Audible.com. However, it will be interesting to see if this thing will hold up against previous versions of the Nook and Amazon’s Kindle.

P.S. Started a new book last night by David Rock titled “Your Brain at Work.” Follows around a Husband (IT Consultant) and Wife (Marketing VP) exposing their current work/life productivity habits. After each chapter, the author goes back and revisits almost all of the daily scenarios with the help and insight of a couple of neouroscientists that dictate how they should be thinking, organizing, and planning each day in order to be the most productive and get the most done. Interesting so far.
